The kid from Akron’s got some new real estate in Beaverton, Oregon. Nike has officially announced the naming of their sixth new building after LeBron James, the superstar athlete who has served as a pillar for the brand’s success since joining the Swoosh back in 2003. This new structure, which is slated to open in 2020, will be home to the Advanced Innovation team as well as the expanded Nike Sports Research Lab – one that is five times the size of the current facility. In addition to being a lab for creating the future of Nike product, the LeBron James Building also features a full NBA-sized basketball court, running tracks, and much more.
Nike names all of their building after the athletes that have and currently represent the brand. Michael Jordan, Serena Williams, Bo Jackson, Mia Hamm, and Tiger Woods are just some of the world-class elite that have the distinction. Seattle-based firm Olson Kundig led the architecture design in partnership with Mortenson Construction.
