Many of the more celebrated adidas Ultra Boost collaborations of the past involved some level of transformation of sorts. Hypebeast’s initial uncaging of the 1.0 model was a lesson in “less is more”, while Sneakersnstuff and WOOD WOOD elevated the silhouette by swapping the sportier plastics with premium leathers. The same can be said for the ’19 iteration as Chinese footwear retailer DOE presents their collaborative concept with Consortium as the merge elements of the iconic Micropacer onto the performance running shoe. They’ve stripped away the mechanism in the mid-foot vest, replacing it with square debossed logo intended to mimic the original module. DOE adds some more cultural notes with the Wushu greeting on the insole, replacing one of the Consortium “handshake” symbols. The shoes have been released exclusively at DOE Shanghai via a private pre-order sale, but these are expected to release worldwide in limited quantities soon.
