Michael Le Seemingly with no plans of slowing down on the collaborative front, Jun Takahashi of UNDERCOVER continues to align with the Nike flags, pushing forward another iteration of his zipper’d Chuck 70 and unveiling quite a few Air Max 720s in palettes true to their aggressive form. Turns out the latter is just one part of a much larger, expansive roll out of Winter 2019 pieces, sitting next to a strong assortment of weather-resistant, utility-ridden apparel and the striking lifeproof React Boot.
Bearing comfort in spades, the newfound silhouette is a technical masterwork in both its visible and hidden features; uppers are wildly over-designed for what is ostensibly a reimagining of a standard rain-ready kit as it even dons tube-constructed handles at its ankles for help with putting them on. Panelling is probably the hardest aspect to explain as its order is near nonexistent: hits of coated synthetic sit underneath paneling that essentially warps around the shape of the foot, with toe caps doing the same though in multiplicative amount of different pieces. Either dark blue or brown tinged the uppers bask in signature accents of contrast paint splatter by its swoosh insignia and barely translucent hits at the heel and its overlaid “U” logo. Air bags sit at the collar instead of within the React sole unit, adding pressure to your liking with the help of Air pump tech. Alongside, the trio of 720s are more unassuming (only in relative terms) with yellows, reds, and black making up its color run. Coupling connecting notes of the aforementioned DIY details and spelled out “UNDERCOVER,” each adorns with “WE MAKE NOISE NOT CLOTHES” on their bubble, an on-going slogan from Takahashi’s accolade keen label.
