New Balance is taking a break from collaborations with the likes of KITH and Casablanca to add a greyscale ensemble to its 990v5.
Akin to a previous joint-effort with BEAMS, uppers on the fifth version of the 990 are clad in New Balance’s iconic grey style. “Black,” however, interrupts the two-tone arrangement across the mesh toe box, collar and tongue. The latter’s U.S. flag logo also partakes in the monochromatic scheme á la Outkast’s Stankonia album cover. Elsewhere, “Black” takes over much of the mixed-material heel area, just like on DTLR‘s upcoming New Balance 997 Greek Gods pack. Forefoot halves of the ENCAP Reveal midsole round out the greyscale aesthetic in white.
