Given the rapidly-growing environmental issues that our planet endures on a daily basis, a common theme and challenge present among various footwear brands today is that of creating products that are both functional and sustainable. Among those choosing to answer the call is Nike, especially with their forthcoming “Space Hippie” collection that is predicated on the concept of transforming trashy scraps into wearable art.
In just 13 days time, one of the members of this capsule — the Space Hippie 02 — will make its official debut. First previewed back in February of this year, the mid-profile silhouette structures its upper with 90% polyester pulled from recycled plastic bottles, t-shirts, and yarn scraps. Down below, its crater-like outsoles are melded with the Swoosh’s Grind Rubber, which gives the shoes a multi-colored/chippy look, as well as ZoomX foam scraps that contribute to its plush ride. Visually, its light grey knit upper is coupled with woven orange threads that comprise its Swooshes and medial wall accents, as well as angelic heel tabs/throat tabs that slightly add more dimension. Treading contrasts vibrantly through its exteriors predominantly hued in baby blue. Interested in grabbing a pair? These will be dropping on Nike.com come June 11th for $150 USD.
