The lasting impression of Daniel Johnston is seen beyond the world of art. In 2018, his iconic friendly frog mural, beloved by the city of Austin, encouraged the start of the Hi, How Are You Project, a one-day initiative that blossomed into a full-blown movement. In March of 2019, fellow Austin institution No Comply Skate, which is celebrating its 13th Anniversary, honored Johnston’s work with a two-pair Vans collaboration to much fanfare, with gathered proceeds going directly to the organization.  The untimely passing of Johnston later in 2019, who himself suffered from mental health issues, inspired the mission to move forward – thus emphasizing the importance of the second collaborative capsule that was first teased earlier this year.

This time around, three silhouettes will be included – the Slip-On Pro, Old Skool Pro, and Authentic Pro. Each features a soft mix of white, grey, and orange, with the famous artwork covering the uppers of the footwear, each outfitted with a Pop Cush insole. All three feature bright orange soles decorated in stars alongside Johnston’s birth and death years (61 and 19). Two t-shirts, a cap, and a tote bag have also been introduced to the collection.

The full capsule will be available on June 13th exclusively at No Comply Skate Shop; a wider release is scheduled for June 21st (Go Skateboarding Day) at select skate-shops in the US.
