Nike’s archive is undoubtedly riddled with icon after icon, and as many of their retro staples — i.e. the Daybreak and Waffle Racer — have more recently dressed up in modern make-ups, you would think the brand would lean on the same approach for their revival of 1979’s Challenger. But as a pleasant surprise, the silhouette has arrived in its OG form for what is the first time in quite a few years, its colorways bearing resemblance to the past alongside.
After a true original and some adjacent staples, the pair is now borrowing from signature UNC palettes for its latest run. The ever-popular University Blue runs replete throughout the entire construction, proffering notable contrast to the suede swoosh, eye stay, and toe cap as well as the medial’s side nylon base. Laterals depart with grey neutrals in tandem with the mesh toe box, while linings and tongue patches bear a brighter white shade. Soles mark with little to no yellowing above their waffle sole, branding is kept vintage for further immersion, and the heel improves comfort by way of a wider shape.

In other news, the ISPA Flow Medium Olive is releasing next week.
