adidas’ Clean Classics Collection Redesigns Originals To Reduce Environmental Waste

After dropping the highly-teased SUPEREARTH collaboration with Sean Wotherspoon, adidas is launching the Clean Classics collection, which reinterprets six Originals with an eco-friendly lens.

As it’s the Superstar‘s 50th Anniversary, the shell-toe makes three entries in the upcoming capsule. Both standard and Bold iterations use Better Rubber, a sustainable compound comprised of 90% natural and 10% recycled rubber. Furthermore, the once-basketball-icon has been constructed with the brand’s new pattern-cutting process, which reduces waste. All three pairs feature “THE CLEAN CLASSICS” branding on the tongue, but only two versions of the model don a handwritten message on the lateral heel that encourages people to reflect on their environmentalism.

Adjacent pairs of the Top Ten Hi, Stan Smith, Supercourt, and Continental 80 are also clad in “Cloud White”, but some indulge in stark “Green”, “Collegiate Royal” or “Scarlet” contrast. Each upper contains 70% recycled material and sits atop a speckled outsole constructed from the same mixed rubber compound as the Superstars. Vegan alternatives to animal-derived materials appear elsewhere, most notably in the form of a OrthoLite® sockliner and polyester lining.
