Though newly revived, the New Balance 992 has amassed quite the noteworthy portfolio of collaborations, its rolodex of connections spanning all the way from JJJJound to Packer Sneakers. And now, with its latest affair, the silhouette is employing consultation from Studio FY7, a 360 degree creative agency whose founder, Younes Bendjima, has spent decades’ worth of time both behind and in front of the fashion industry’s camera.
Revealed via social media both on-feet and in-hand, the collaborative silhouette, though visually subdued at quick glance, is replete with direct and somewhat obscure references. The sand suede along the exterior, which wraps from forefoot to heel, pays homage to the dunes of southern Algeria, while the black mesh, tongue, and lining inside contrast with connection to the ancient architecture of Ghardaïa. Seemingly inspired by Le Corbusier, the late Swiss-French multi-hyphenate and pioneer of modern architecture, the offering is a shoe that aims to remind of you one thing: “no matter where you walk in the world, you can, and should, be proud to carry your history and heritage wherever you go.”
Grab a detailed look at these here, and if you’re looking to grab a set, they’ll be available October 22nd exclusively at studiofy7.com.
