As Virgil Abloh took the reigns of Louis Vuitton menswear, many weren’t sure of what to expect. But, now two years post-appointment, the designer has successfully pushed his own unique ideas of luxury, bringing along NIGO‘s Human Made and some Walter Van Beirendonck “inspired” motifs. Even through footwear, Abloh has attempted to aggressively experiment — his latest silhouette, dubbed “A View,” a bridge between high fashion and skate.
As it was made for and with renowned skater Lucien Clarke, the model exudes an ethos fitting of a pro’s wardrobe. Its shape, which seemingly borrows the likeness of past 90s staples, appears retro, imposing in its size alone. At its base, the tooling overtly leans towards performance, upgraded with technical foam and polyurethane cushioning. Above, a technical fabrication and calf leather forms the upper in three arrangements: a black, white, and light blue. Louis Vuitton insignia stamps in bold atop the tongue on all of the above, while a cursive counterpart pencils the full name along the side in either a gilded or white-colored fill.
