The Nike Fontanka Edge Combines A Bulky, Armored Sole And Heel With A Sleek Upper

The Nike Fontanka Edge Combines A Bulky, Armored Sole And Heel With A Sleek Upper

When it comes to creating new models, Nike’s design team has been gravitating towards chunky, futuristic designs with playful yet strategic uses of shapes—the ZoomX Vista Grind and Air Max Up serve as prime examples. Stepping away from the Air Max line, the women’s Fontanka Edge will be one of the first new silhouettes to debut in 2021. Its bulky platform-like sole and a diverse mix of textures may spearhead new footwear trends for the upcoming year.

The pair sees a tonal black colorway, thus having to use different materials throughout to create contrast among different elements. While the base is composed of translucent mesh, synthetic overlays are used around the toe, side swoosh, and lacestays. This makes for uppers that have an edgy, modern proposition. The sole unit seems to be the most prominent feature, with its chunkiness and split-sole look, also featuring a cork-like block with ZoomX technology branding. As a final touch, the heel features three embroidered mini swooshes that are unexpected colored in yellow, red, and blue.

Check out official images of the Fontanka Edge below, which will be available on January 28th at Nike.com and select retailers.
