It’s no question that New Balance had an eventful year, with silhouettes from the 327 to the 992 only bettering their reputation. And now, as the brand sits comfortably on the top of everyone’s “Best of 2020” lists, they’re to revisit some past collections, specifically, the sartorial-inspired “Gentleman’s Pack.”
Borrowed from dress shoes, the design direction shines a new light on both the 991 and 1500. In their color as well as their quality, each is turned from athletic sneaker to formal centerpiece, their leathers quickly evident of such luxury. Atop the 991, tumbled panels hit the toe cap, eye stay, and counter, framing the darker, polished browns that outfit along the mid-panel. Embroidered outlines call attention to the Boston-based institution’s signature, while matching that of the velvety suedes built underneath.
In slight departure, the 1500 takes the very same mindset and applies both a marginally unique palette and color blocking. Tanned finishes now lead at the toe, wrapping that of burgundy-esque trims and greyed underlayers. Browned finishes then wrap adjacent along the top half, setting the backdrop for the branding at the tongue, profile, and black-finished heel.
Grab a detailed look at both options right below, and as they’re soon to release at overseas retailers, it shouldn’t be too long before we see the “Gentleman Pack” go global.
In other news, official images of the Nike SB Dunk Low Street Hawker just surfaced.
