In-house designer Taka Hayashi has been at the forefront of Vault By Vans‘ more interesting designs for over two decades now. With his latest collection, the Japanese stalwart is pulling from Formula One racing, thrusting both the OG Style 23 LX and the OG Style 47 LX passed the starting line.
Despite drawing from the same inspiration, the footwear options are very clearly divided in their design language. The Style 23, which loosely reminds of the iconic Sk8-Hi, takes the classic high-top form and removes the signature Jazz Stripe branding entirely. This allows the design to better display the reworked checkerboard print, which is essentially Hayashi’s interpretation of a track’s finish line. Elsewhere, the tongue’s Vans logo also sees some tweaks as it morphs to mimic the sport’s classic team jackets.
The Style 47, in heavy departure, is more akin to the Slip-On. Somewhat more one note, the upper takes on quilted vamps, contrasted heel stripes, and printed midsoles, all coming together to celebrate the racing flags prolific across the pastime.

In other news, a greyscale Reebok Premier Road Modern is on the way.
