Witnessing the string of successful collaborative collections with sacai and the anticipation of the sacai Vaporwaffle‘s release this month, the Nike design team is giving the DIY aesthetic a shot—solo. Their take on the deconstructed trend is exemplified by the Nike Waffle One, which had been revealed in January and various colorways have emerged since. Now, the model not only has decided upon a release date but also unveiled a women’s exclusive arrangement that pairs red with lilac.
Using the shape of the heritage-style Nike Waffle as a base, the pair uses an ultrafine mesh in Active Fuschia to construct the uppers. The mesh envelopes the red body underneath, with the shade also coloring the suede lacestays and overlay at the toe. A red side Swoosh interrupts the mesh, although it is partially covered by the purple suede overlay at the heel. The heel is also where a red plastic counter is found to mimic the look of a triple-stacked sole. This detail is strikingly similar to the heel counter on the UNDERCOVER Daybreak. A Coconut Milk foam midsole rounds out the women’s exclusive, adding a black Waffle pattern underfoot for traction and retro styling.
Take a closer look at the Nike Waffle One below, which will make its way onto Nike.com on May 13th.
In other Swoosh-related news, the Nike Air Max Pre-Day is releasing a black and grey offering.
