In regards to creating jaw-dropping web-gems or launching bombs over the outfield fence, Ken Griffey Jr. was a regular, and Nike’s making the effort to retell the lore of the living legend that is now serving as senior advisor to the MLB commissioner. Whether it be for his defense, as seen in the Vapormax Plus “Spider Catch”, or his plate presence, as seen in his Air Griffey Max 1 “Sweetest Swing”, all Nike Griffeys just look best when colored with that Mariners teal. This special edition takes it a step further by adding golden accents on the forefoot Swoosh and the home plate hangtag, while strikes of red are seen throughout the straps, heel-tabs, and other minutia.
The heel overlay also features etched markings that mimic the woodgrain seen on baseball bats, while other leathers, both full-grain and perforated, make up the rest of the shoe’s construction. The standout detail is “The Sweetest Swing” logo placed on the insole, nodding to Ken Griffey’s super-fluid, effortless, and powerful lefty swing.
A release date is not known yet, but we surmise that these will be available sometime this summer alongside the other Griffey gear.
