Jasmine Tang Models such as the Nike Waffle One and sacai’s VaporWaffle act as clear proof of how Bill Bowerman’s 1971 genius treading pattern will continue to be essential for modern, heritage-style releases. The gridded outsole now arrives on a women’s exclusive Nike Waffle Racer that gets playful with summery accents.
As a new-school take on classic Waffle trainers, the pair flaunts gridded nylon uppers in bright white. To maintain a minimalist color palette, suede lacestays and overlays on the heel and toe are tinted grey. This white and grey scheme is then disrupted by a Light Sienna stripe on the sides, which sits under the gridded mesh. Embroidered Swoosh outlines and logos in a vibrant Active Fuchsia further embrace the fun commenced by the aforementioned detail. To add some cool tones to the model, the insole and graphic overlay near the laces opt for a minty Sienna Green. As for the sole unit, the midsole demonstrates an edgy, two-piece look that is signature to new Waffle Racer styles. The familiar treading underfoot completes the design, tying this release back to classic runner silhouettes.
