Alex Dymond Modifies The MEPHISTO Match For 2021

New York-born and bred creative director and designer, Alex Dymond, has been working in both streetwear and menswear since graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2004. Now at the helm of his own creative group, Studio Dymond, the Manhattan-native has recently reimagined the MEPHISTO Match for 2021.

Originally released decades ago, the Match Oxford has won global audiences over because of the design philosophy Martin Michaeli put behind it: to create “the world’s finest footwear.” Traditionally, the low-top trainer has featured a number of details that Dymond has reworked and completely done away with for a slight redesign. The biggest change between Michaeli’s original vision and Studio Dymond’s update is the departure from all d-rings along the tongue. To create a lighter, less bulky shoe, Dymond has included a mix of eyelets near the top of the tongue and vamp; middle eye-stays still boast the robust d-ring makeup. Lateral profiles also forgo the decorative triple-needle topstitch found towards the heel. As a result the white smooth leather delivers a cleaner aesthetic. Suede appears around the forefoot for a touch of texture, slight color contrast and nod to classic tennis sneakers. Dymond has further personalized the Match with custom woven “MEPHISTO” labels on the lateral mid-foot and tongue label. Lastly, the made-in-Portugal sneaker come packaged with an over-under lace job – a nod to Dymond’s NYC-upbringing – to ensure the shoes are wearable out the box. Standard collar padding and SOFT-AIR technology ensure all-day comfort.
