Balenciaga Further Distorts Athletic Footwear With New Runner Silhouette

Ever since Demna Gvasalia took the reigns at Balenciaga, the shows have become a spectacle in and of themselves, replete with stunning — at times controversial — pieces. And while currently enamored with the medieval, sending literal armor down the runway, the high fashion label is still fostering their series of athletic footwear. Soon, their latest silhouette, entitled “Runner,” will make headway at select retailers, KITH among one of the few to offer it this Friday.

Priced at an expected premium, $1090 USD, the silhouette spiritually follows the Triple S and Track Sneaker from years previous, offering an oversized look somewhat reminiscent. But at a closer glance, the ethos is entirely distinct, near unrefined as it blends a DIY approach with Balenciaga’s usual language. This errs quite close to the works of Helen Kirkum as layers of leather, TPU, and midsole foam are stacked, glued together, and collaged to form a rather cohesive design.

650 Preview models are available in three colorways — White/Red, Triple White, Triple Black — each accompanied by both KITH and Balenciaga branded dubraes. Expect to find them at KITH for a limited time starting July 16th at 11AM.
