One of the forgotten weekend traditions in New York City during the pandemic were the treasured Saturday strolls through the many farmers markets that dot the boroughs. Whether it be the massive convening of independent shops that cover most of Union Square’s walking territory or the smaller yet equally vital arrangements by the many parks, these farmers markets were a crucial part of the weekend morning scene that went sorely missed since last Spring.
Ideated during the lockdown period, Todd Snyder linked up with Dan Kluger, Christina Tosi, and Andy Baraghani – three key NYC-based culinary figures – to reminisce on this Saturday morning routine of shopping for grains, fruits, and veggies. Applying distinct colorways onto the casual sneaker, the New Balance 327 is built with suede and mesh uppers with detailing that call back to men’s dress shoes. “We wanted these sneakers and jackets to be a colorful reminder of how special that experience is. I’m grateful that this capsule is coming out at a moment when many of us can return to our local farm stands and favorite restaurants.”
The entire Todd Snyder x New Balance 327 collection (shoes $150, jacket $398) will release on Todd Snyder online on July 29th, while a release on newbalance.com is scheduled for August 12th. Todd Snyder and New Balance are pledging $10,000 to GrowNYC as part of this launch; GrowNYC is dedicated to supporting New York City’s greenmarkets and to ensuring that all New Yorkers have access to the freshest, healthiest local food.
