Jovani Hernandez Although the Nike Waffle One has been ridiculed by some sneaker enthusiasts for resembling sacai’s work with the brand, the budget-friendlier silhouette has built a sizable audience of its own through compelling colorways. Recently, the heritage-inspired offering emerged in a summer-ready “Natural,” “Light Chocolate” and “Light Bone” arrangement.
Mesh and suede construction across the pair’s upper indulges in a mix of off-white hues that allow for the profile swooshes, tongue accents and other details throughout the shoes to revel in the spotlight. The clean ensemble is accompanied by rich brown contrast that lands on the sidewalls’ logos; hits of orange appear around the tongue for a warm weather-appropriate mix of flavors. Structures at the lower heel deviate from their surroundings in a truly cream color that compliments the slightly-yellowed midsoles underfoot. Vintage Nike Running-informed waffle-patterned tread rounds out the Waffle One’s latest look in a predominantly “Black” finish that brings heritage to the 21st century.
