Michael Le Since their Air Jordan 1 in 2018, Union LA has dropped a drove of collaborative offerings: multiple iterations of the Air Jordan 4, a duo of Air Jordan 2s, and even a couple silhouettes outside of the core Air Jordan line-up. And for their latest project, Chris Gibbs and team are looking beyond the Jumpman, setting their sights on the ever-iconic Cortez.
Dressed here in “Sesame,” the Union LA x Nike Cortez — or “Un-Cortez,” as dubbed by the storefront — reimagines the shoe as an “expression of Los Angeles’s cultural diversity.” Despite being a tribute to the icon itself, this version of the silhouette plays around with new elements: woven textiles outfit the base, backlighting the rubberized toe and rearranged suede overlays. What’s more, Crater Foam builds out the midsole, cork is used for the insole, and Union LA branding marks both the forefoot as well as the heel.
