Michael Le New Balance’s rise in popularity is thanks most in part to their extensive network of collaborators. And alongside Teddy Santis, thisisneverthat, and the like, the footwear brand has continued to foster relationships with a number of boutiques. And come very soon, one of these storefronts, YCMC, will be releasing a stripped down, understated version of the 990v3, which “celebrates the uniqueness and mutual admiration of self-expression through sneakers.”
Here, YCMC is paying their respects to New Balance’s iconic grey colorway, albeit through a more contemporary lens. Said neutral is thrust to the background, mainly painted across the nubuck trims and tongue. Underneath, the mesh inserts complement in a slightly lighter shade, while adjacent fixtures such as the laces, lining, and midsole opt for a white finish that closely resembles the suede overlays painted in “Nimbus Cloud.” Four lacing options encourage the wearer to style the shoes in their own way.
