What’s your favorite memory of Tupac Shakur? Is it perhaps a famous track, his devotion to activism, or is it simply one of his iconic outfits? There’s such a rich well to draw from, which explains why the cultural impact of Tupac remains as strong as ever.
One such image forever ingrained in our memories is from the original album artwork for “All Eyes On Me,” in which a denim-clad Tupac is leaning up against the wheel well of a Jaguar and rocking the FILA Grant Hill 2. As a reference to this unforgettable moment in sneaker culture, FILA has partnered with the Shakur Estate to launch a collection of footwear, apparel, and accessories to honor the legacy of Tupac while reminiscing about this timeless influence on hip-hop fashion history.
At the center of this collection is the FILA Grant Hill 2 Low, offered in two styles that nod to the silhouette’s roots as well as Tupac’s distinct fashion sense. The first is the original white/red/navy edition — the same colorway seen in that 1996 album insert. The second is a brown/white version, with canvas-like overlays and touches of paisley on the inner sock-liner that represent the artist’s affinity for bandanas. Tupac’s insignia is placed just below the FILA Grant Hill 2 logo, while his namesake appears on the heel in a gothic-style typeface. A matching shoe-box contains a number of design touches consistent with the footwear.
The FILA x 2PAC collection will also feature a range of apparel and accessories, such as hoodies, joggers, long-sleeve crewnecks, tees, track suits, bucket hats, beanies, and bandanas.
The collection of footwear and apparel will be available on FILA.com beginning October 4th ($198 for the shoes); see a detailed look at the collection below. Purchase the “Tupac” edition here and the Reissue here.
