The Jordan Nu Retro 1 Returns With Classic “Royal Blue” Flair

Back when Air Jordan 1 retros weren’t as commonplace as they have been over the last handful of years, Michael Jordan and sneaker enthusiasts celebrated propositions like the Jordan Nu Retro 1. While these same fans might regret their pasts, it’s important to recognize what the low-top silhouette meant during an earlier era of Jordan Brand.

Having returned in its original “Varsity Red/White/Black” color combination in November, the decades-old design recently emerged in another ensemble borrowed directly from Jordan’s first signature sneaker. The forefoot area closely resembles the “Royal Blue” sneaker a young Chicago Bulls legend laced up in 1985, although the mid-foot panels and sole unit underfoot deviate from Peter Moore’s original creation. The “Wings” insignia found on the first Air Jordan‘s lateral ankle flap takes center stage on the Nu Retro 1, taking over most of the lateral profile. The cushioning and traction solutions also get an update, combining basketball heritage with a look and functionality suited for casual wear or performance in skate, soccer, or other realms.

Enjoy official images of the pair ahead, and anticipate a nike.com launch soon.
