Saucony is unquestionably a running-focused company, but the Massachusetts-based brand has a rich history in other sports.
Throughout the 1980s Saucony delved into the world of basketball, bringing some of its findings from the road to the hardwood. One such project was the Spot-Bilt Sonic silhouette, a design pitched under a different brand name but with signature Saucony Creek logos on the sides.
Hyde Industries, the company that purchased Saucony in 1968, incorporated ski boot technology on the Sonic for ankle lockdown. An Achilles Notch at the spine offers flexibility for high-intensity performance. The remainder of the upper enjoyed a leather build akin to the New Balance 650 and adidas Rivalry Hi. Underfoot, a rubber cupsole rounds out the Sonic retro, which returns in original white, blue, and grey styling.
Enjoy campaign photography of the pair ahead. No stateside saucony.com launch details have been revealed, but the pairs land overseas on Feb. 17.
