Last year, on the 75th Anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball, Nike honored the icon’s legacy with the Dunk Low, decorating the silhouette with his career statistics. One of the most sought after sneaker drops of the year, the Jackie Robinson Dunks also served a charitable purpose as proceeds of the release went towards the Jackie Robinson Foundation.
As a follow-up to that historic release, Nike will once again honor Jackie Robinson with the Air Force 1 Low, seen here for the first time via official images. The shoes feature a strong influence from the throwback Brooklyn Dodgers uniforms, with Jackie’s #42 embroidered on the heel and the team logo on the tongue. “Change The World” is printed on the laces, while the metallic bronze lace dubrae commemorates the year Jackie broke the color barrier (1947) and the year he retired (1956).
The upper is comprised of a tumbled leather at the toe and lace collar, while a smooth white leather appears on the toe-box, mid-panel, and heel. A full-length gum sole features specks of royal blue, while red baseball stitching appears on the heels.
A release is currently expected for April 2023; see the official images ahead.
