Reintroduced a near decade ago in 2014, the adidas Rod Laver has enjoyed a dedicated cult following thanks to its diverse build and clean composition. While the silhouette inspired by the 11-time Grand Slam Champion has traditionally enjoyed an understated aesthetic, the circa 1970 effort now introduces a bold new attitude featuring the first-ever appearance of the brand’s staple 3-Stripes.
Right away the model features renovations in an effort to mirror the widely-popular ensembles of the mid-90s, ditching its fabric canvas base layer for a “Footwear White” treated tumbled leather composition. Maintaining its typical suede association, the forefoot’s mudguard accents the latter in an ever-so-light grey while seldom cream tones render along the trim of the tongue and presiding sock liner. While the midsole unit comes encompassed in an “Off-White” application, the serrated 3-Stripes introduce vibrant “Scarlet” contrasts in tandem with the smooth leather heel counter, tongue tab branding and tread underfoot.
While we await the pair’s expected release, in the meantime enjoy official images of the adidas Rod Laver “Scarlet Stripes” below.
For more throwback silhouettes, the Nike Air Flight Huarache “Nike Gear” draws inspiration from the early 90s sportswear trends.
