MSCHF has very quickly become a household name, with creations the likes of the Wavy Baby and Big Red Boot achieving mainstream success. And after turning what was previously confined to animation into something both real and wearable, you’d think the Brooklyn-based art collective was approaching the limits of how subversive footwear can be. Well, that’s not yet the case, as their newest design — the BWD — is arguably their most ridiculous yet.

Whereas other brands have taken a more sensible approach to two-way sneakers — opting for modular designs comprised of multiple parts — MSCHF have gone in the complete opposite direction for the BWD, opening both ends of its construction. In many ways, the model’s base is informed by existing styles, specifically conjuring to mind images of classic skate shoes. How it’s worn, though, is far from the standard: while it may proffer a glimpse of normalcy if slipped into from the back, the reverse is a much more absurd interpretation of a mule.

The MSCHF BWD is expected to be available on April 11th, releasing exclusively through the MSCHF Sneakers App. For a closer, detailed look at the release, see ahead.

If you’re looking for a something a bit less crazy, the Air Max 1 Big Bubble drops this weekend.
