For years The Swoosh has invited us back to the beginning stages of each of its most iconic silhouettes and consecutive color blockings. Reeducating while paying homage has become an adopted routine for the Beaverton brand as this weekend they return one of their holy grails that continues to influence and push forward sneaker culture. Following a multitude of teasers and an onslaught of official imagery, the Nike Air Max 1 ’86 returns in its “Big Bubble” this Sunday.
Utilizing CT scans to replicate the enlarged Nike Air unit and window utilized in the ’86 original, the silhouette makes its grand reappearance on Nike’s famed Air Max Day in its synonymous “University Red” composition. Mirroring its 2017 “Anniversary” counterpart in an identical color blocking, the overall construction of the OG inspiration bears a slightly wider toe box while the heel overlay has been raised and the former appearance of a synthetic twine has been ditched in appreciation for a true nylon tooling. Rendering seldom yet effective updates throughout in an effort to strike up late 80s nostalgia, the Tinker Hatfield design reinvigorates it’s once quietly shelved ensemble.
Scheduled to release tomorrow – March 26th – exactly 36 years after its inaugural debut for a retail price of $150 in full family sizing, in the meantime enjoy one last look at the Nike Air Max 1 ’86 “Big Bubble” below alongside our accompanying store list to grab your pair.
In other news, LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s UNINTERRUPTED platform received a Nike LeBron 20 collaboration.
