Since 2018, “Grey Day” has been an opportunity for New Balance to shine the spotlight on the muted color most often associated with it. As part of its collection for the fictional holiday, which takes place on May 12th this year, the North American institution has prepped the New Balance 996 in a grey ensemble.
Akin to other commemorative drops from the past, the newly-surfaced pair employs an original blueprint and “boring” color arrangement. Beloved, high-quality suede and mesh materials divvy up the upper, staying true to the schematics developed ahead of its debut in 1988. Bits of a shimmering silver land at the sidewalls and upper heel, keeping its reflective functionality intact. The “new balance”-branded support clip around the lower heel opts for a slightly-yellowed finish, delivering a touch of age to the “Grey Day” release. Underfoot, the ENCAP-assisted sole unit maintains its heritage, providing a tried-and-proven ride to old and new fans alike.
Enjoy detailed product photography of the pair ahead. The NB 996 heads to retailers on May 12th for $175 USD.
