Nike has paid numerous homages to Puerto Rico — some, however, much more contentious than others. But much like last year, 2023 has thankfully avoided controversy, as the brand has put together a rather tasteful nod to one of the island’s most popular desserts: piragua.
A frozen treat that consists of shaved ice and flavored syrup, piragua has inspired the design and colorway of not one but two different renditions of the Nike Air Max 1. And much like its cool-toned counterpart, the “Orange Frost” features an anthropomorphized graphic of said sweet, with popular flavors written on the shoe’s packaging. Elsewhere, Puerto Rico is embroidered and raised along the right heel and gold dubraes, respectively, backlit by a vibrant palette predominantly comprised of bright oranges and brighter pinks.
Enjoy a closer look at the Nike Air Max 1 “Puerto Rico” in “Orange Frost” via the official images ahead. The “Orange Frost” is expected to release on June 6th, with further release details to be shared soon.
In other news, the OG Nike Air More Uptempo is returning… sort of.
