Jordan Brand Officially Reveals The Air Jordan 38

In concert with the sponsored Quai 54 tournament in Paris, Jordan Brand has officially unveiled the 38th iteration of the Air Jordan series.

The Beaverton brand’s team of designers has built the silhouette from the ground up based on Michael Jordan’s iconic turnaround fadeaway, imbuing the 38 with a new X-Plate solution – inspired by the straps of the Air Jordan 8 – that’s cemented in court mobility and space creation.  As a Tier 2 silhouette, the 38 has been crafted with at least 20 percent recycled content by weight, which shows up specifically in the marbled tongue made from the scraps of sock liners.

Embroidered technology enters the fold via the backless forefoot while further threaded detailing nods to Jordan’s iconic 1993 season with 41 crosshatches consuming the collar in reference to his 41-point-per-game average during the Finals, and three diamonds placed along the medial signify the Chicago Bulls’ third franchise championship. Underfoot, the unique cushioning system removes its past use of Formula23 Foam in favor of a full-length Zoom Strobel and Cushlon 3.0 wedge pairing. Elsewhere, a radial herringbone traction pattern and the aforementioned X-Plate clean up the bottom half with a nostalgic yet purposeful design ethos.

The Air Jordan 38 will release its inaugural “Fundamental” colorway on August 18th while the silhouette’s upcoming homages to both FIBA and the WNBA can additionally be seen below. At this time, a price point and successive release dates have not been made available.
