As the Nike Air Force 1 Low continues to celebrate its 40th anniversary, the iconic silhouette keeps forming part of special collections. Case in point?: The latest “Athletic Department” offering.
Inspired by vintage sports apparel, the “Athletic Department” lineup by Nike Sportswear brings old school styling to a series of favorites from the Swoosh. A number of Air Force 1 options have joined a handful of Air Max designs to actualize Nike’s walk down memory lane. Unlike other offerings, however, the most recent Air Force 1 “Athletic Department” features a muted, near-uniform finish across the upper. Beige suede covers everything from the forefoot to the heel, with profile swooshes and Achilles’ Heel overlays interrupting in an off white leather. Exposed foam tongues help vintage branding on the sock-liner and spine take wearers to the past, while the “aged” midsole does as well. Lastly, Bruce Kilgore’s tried-and-proven outsole rounds out the thematic release with a beige finish that matches the suede upper.
