The Saucony Grid Shadow 2 had long been kept in the archives, but the Massachusetts-based brand is ready to shine the spotlight on its 27-year-old design again.
In mid-January, Bronx-born creator Jae Tips teased two different collaborations on the Grid Shadow 2, bringing attention to the widely-forgotten runner of the 1990s. During Paris Fashion Week in June, Saucony’s Global Brand President Robert Griffiths was spotted wearing the silhouette in question in its original “White/Blue” color scheme. Retailers across Europe have begun promoting the launch of this very style, confirming the century-old company’s plan to highlight the Grid Shadow 2 throughout the remainder of 2023 and beyond.
A mesh base sets the stage for a suede, leather, and plastic overlays throughout the upper. Titular blue flair animates everything from the toe to the sidewalls in the same manner it did in 1996. The cushioning solution underfoot provides a chunky solution that’ll fit in with the on-going “dad shoe” trend, all while contributing to the resurgence of Saucony. Jae Tips has already signed on to reinterpret the old school running sneaker, suggesting other collaborators will follow suit.
Enjoy detailed photos of the pair ahead. A stateside saucony.com release date has been confirmed by the brand for August 25th. The Grid Shadow 2 hit retailers overseas on August 18th.
