Jovani Hernandez First rumored in mid-June, a third Air Jordan 5 by A Ma Maniére has recently surfaced via official photography ahead of its expected launch for the holidays.
Clad in “Photon Dust,” “Pale Ivory,” “Black,” and “Diffused Blue,” the sneaker is a women’s-exclusive, as have been other special projects by James Whitner and company. A Ma Maniére hasn’t shared a narrative to accompany the upcoming Air Jordan, but it’s likely the sneaker’s color scheme and campaign will tie back to recurring motifs under The Whitaker Group’s umbrella: the resilience of Black women, chasing dreams, and expanding opportunities for Black and Brown folks.
Premium construction takes on Tinker Hatfield’s third design for Michael Jordan, with co-branding being present all-throughout the sneaker and its packaging. The bulk of the upper takes on an understated finish, but supporting accents introduce a compelling “Diffused Blue,” as well as an “aged” aesthetic that’s elevated several collaboration between A Ma Maniére and NIKE, inc. The tongue and collar indulge in a tweak from the performance-oriented blueprint from 1990, perhaps to increase comfort. “NIKE AIR” text is embroidered onto the spine, while the lateral heel features “23” numerals, a detail that further connect’s Whitner and company’s joint-effort to the original.
