Inspired by the relentless impact on marathon runners underfoot, Nike birthed one of its most innovative cushioning systems to date in the early 2010s. Spanning the Beaverton brand’s full breadth of footwear initiatives, Lunarlon Foam has injected a litany of models with a pillowy soft tooling underfoot. As Nike Inc. continues to divulge into the ecosystem’s obsession with 2000s aesthetics, the brand has merged the iconic lightweight foam with a contemporary design ethos for the all-new Nike Lunar Roam.
Treated to a dominant amount of engineered mesh, the upper reserves pockets of enhanced breathability at the mid-foot and vamp. Throughout the forefoot, panels of TPU provide the details of a past era with hidden performance benefits that provide enhanced durability atop the hallmark cushioning system. Speaking of, the midsole’s synonymous parallel serrations animate the chunky foam midsole just like its debut a decade ago.
Draping its engineered mesh base layer in a welcoming shade of “Alabaster”, a contrasting slate of “Green Abyss” animates the vectorized detailing at the mid-foot and heel, complemented by jet-black lines and profile swooshes. Imbuing the palette with a bit of Y2K aesthetics, the forefoot’s symmetrical dark grey TPU mudguards oppose the upper’s dominant warm cream real estate. Underfoot, the heralded Lunarlon midsole is treated to a vibrant contrast as a majority of the tooling is anchored in a bright “Lemon Drop” while the split heel favors a “Saturn Gold” finish.
The Nike Lunar Roam officially debuts on December 16th for a retail price of $150 USD. In the meantime, the pair can be seen in detailed imagery ahead.
In other news from the Beaverton brand, the Travis Scott Mac Attack releases on December 19th.
