Although the Japanese institution has already shown that it’ll continue to deliver more compelling styles of its popular roster of retro running sneakers, the company has also teased big bets for 2024. Case in point?: The ASICS GEL-Terrain.
Much more conventionally-named than some of the brand’s most iconic offerings, the GEL-Terrain is a model rooted in trail-ready footwear. Informed by the GEL-FUJITRABUCO™ series, the impending offering is a lot more palatable than its source material. At quick glance, the sneaker resembles some of ASICS’ work from throughout the 2000s, as well as highly-sought out collaborations with Bulgarian-born British designer, Kiko Kostadinov. Technical welding and no-sew elements keeps things sleek on the GEL-Terrain, while simultaneously smartening-up performance design cues. A speed lacing system also brings convenience to the model, and delivers an aesthetic sure to be quickly embraced by fans of the “gorpcore” trend. Underfoot, the FLYTEFOAM™ and GEL™ cushioning setup has been directly borrowed from the ASICS GT-2000 8 sneaker, a budget-friendly running model from the past decade. Together, each aforementioned competent blends heritage with modern technology to create another fresh option in the expansive world of trail-inspired shoes. A mix of vibrant and understated color schemes also reveals what’s possible with the technical arrangement.
