As we inch closer to the Swoosh’s foremost brand holiday in Air Max Day, it seems the past several weeks have brought an endless line of new Air Max products. Be it the slew of unveiled looks for the the Nike Air Max Dn or updated takes on older silos, the product line is simply at its apex right now. Adding to the momentum, the latest Nike Air Max 1 “Malachite” slides in carrying trademark retro appeal as well as a tacit reference to a massive past release.

The “Chili” blocking scheme at play here is instantly recognizable. Though the outsole isn’t shaded on this pair, the simplistic black and white combo instantly evokes that iconic pair all the same. An extra bit of punch comes via the “Malachite” accents that slide in between. Sitting center on the Swoosh, the tongue tab and barely tinting the midsole Air unit, a little goes a long way for the titular shade. Finally, though most of the structural elements are familiar here, a suede Swoosh and tumbled leather on the midline panel lend a premium feel.

Retailing for $140, the Nike Air Max 1 “Malachite” is expected to drop this summer in men’s sizing. Just ahead, you’ll find a full suite of “first look” images via JD Sports.
