Takashi Murakami is unveiling his very own limited edition slides at Complex Con Hong Kong this weekend. The slides go by the moniker “Ohana Full-Bloom” in reference to the Japanese name for flowers and spearhead the arrival of a new, yet-to-be-announced brand.

This comes as big news given Murakami’s strong foothold at the intersection of art and high fashion. He’s worked with brands like Louis Vuitton and collaborators like Kanye West and Pharrell across several mediums, and the prospect of Murakami-stamped footwear comes as a much welcomed development. Complex has clarified that the shoes will not be releasing at Complex Con Hong Kong, but will be on display.

Murakami’s hallmark flower motif draws inspiration from his personal experiences and Japan’s cultural heritage. Flowers are used to convey a range emotions that are central to his artistic vision, and happiness is the core ethos on the Ohana slide.

While this news alone offers ample reason for excitement, sneakerheads can revel in the prospect of potential new colors and other Murakami-stamped footwear offerings down the line as details regarding his new brand take shape. In the meantime, enjoy a close-up look at the Ohana slides here.
