Jordan is releasing a new kids shoe under the Jordan Brand Wings umbrella on May 15th; the Air Jordan 1 Mid “Subway.”
For the uninformed, Jordan Brand Wings is an initiative geared towards breaking down barriers that hold back young people through a variety of athletic, educational, and design opportunities. The AJ1 Mid “Subway” is the end result of a prompt given to 138 New York City students; design a shoe centered around role models. As its namesake might suggest, the shoes pay tribute to MTA workers and the work they do to keep New York City and its people moving.
Naturally, the colors of various NYC subway lines appear prominently throughout the shoe. The sock lining and midsole boast multi-colored speckles, while “WINGS” text appears on the heel through circles made to look like subway signs (although most letters and colors don’t correlate properly). A Jumpman hangtag and special packaging also work in the same colors for cohesion.
Moving on to the details you don’t see, the shoe is entirely waterproof, a huge plus in a walkable city where the primary mode of transport is the subway. A reflective Swoosh and co-branded tongue reading “Thank You For All You Do” on the inner portion add flair, and details on the lateral side speak messages New Yorkers most definitely find familiar; “Always Go Forward” presents on the toe and a tab reading “Do Not Lean On The Doors” juts out at the quarter.
The Air Jordan 1 Mid “Subway” releases on May 15th, 2024 in grade school ($125), pre-school ($85), and toddler sizes ($70). Enjoy official images below and reference our “Where To Buy” section for direct purchase links upon the shoe’s release.
