The New Balance 550 Takes On Kentucky Blue

Though the New Balance 550 has found new life as the lifestyle shoe de jour for the Boston Brand, its basketball origins are never too far out of reach even in its modern revitalization. While there’s no official ties, it’s hard not to think of the Wildcats with its latest edition, matching “Heron Blue” to “Linen” off-white overtones.

The two featured shades land in largely the “default” arrangement seen on past 550s. The leather upper is primarily dominated by beige, starkly contrasted by oceanic blue at the collab, lateral branding and on the outsole. However, choosing pure white for the midsole while placing off-white up top is a notable inversion on the vintage styles that we’ve grown so accustomed to. It’s hard to turn your nose up at any 550 style- the shoe got to its spot at the top for a reason- but this edition puts forth a look that’s tweaked just enough to stand apart from the crowd.

The New Balance 550 “Heron Blue” is available now via NewBalance.com. Women’s sizes are up for grabs for a $110 price tag.
