Most sneakerheads barely flinch upon hearing of a new Nike Dunk Low nowadays. An extraordinary abundance of colorways has the market feeling fatigued, overly familiar, and often unimpressed by new pairs, reasons as to why Nike announced it will be reducing stock in the near future. Even still, the Beaverton brand hasn’t lost the ability to pump out an eyebrow-raiser every now and then, as evidence by this new “Safari” pair.

In the absence of color, the shoes stand out for their unique materials and details. Safari print leather makes up the overlays and Swoosh, and the toe box perforations are re-worked in the shape of the sun, an uncharacteristic (but not unheard of) choice that stands out as a solid conversation starter. Moreover, the shoes take a page out of the Air Force 1 playbook with the inclusion of a metallic silver lace dubrae, adding a classy touch and even more uniqueness.

We’ve yet to hear of any specific associations behind the design, but given Nike’s embrace of “Safari” treatments in footwear tied to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, it’s most likely aligned with the same touchpoint.
