It was previewed during last year’s SNKRS Showcase, and now the return of the Nike Air Max Sunder (formerly Air Sunder Max) is finally starting to pick up steam. A new image posted by @cakenotcrumbs provides a detailed look at two colorways expected to drop in Fall 2024, re-igniting discourse surrounding the long-archived 1999 Air Max shoe.

It should be noted that Nike actually brought back the Air Max Sunder in 2021 via a COMME des GARÇONS collaboration, but not as a GR model as stands to be the case in 2024. While the three pairs featured in that delivery kept close to CDG’s contemporary design language, dropping the shoe’s TPR pods, Nike’s blueprint for new Air Max Sunder drops revolves around OG colorways and OG tooling.

Both colorways pictured here appear almost exactly as they did in Nike catalogs from the late 90s and early 2000s, one being the “Deep Ocean/Gold/Deep Yellow” and the other being the “Black/Light Graphite/Grey.” While it’s hardly the first Y2K-era shoe Nike’s brought back in recent years, the newly revived Air Max Sunder is said to have received meticulous attention to detail from Beaverton designers. Hidden enhancements are a possibility given the advancement of sneaker tech since 1999, but to the pleasure of sneaker purists, consumers can expect the shoe to look very similar to OG pairs.

Keep a close eye on our Sneaker Release Dates page while we provide updated information regarding Air Max Sunder drops throughout the course of the year. We’ve yet to hear of a release date for any colorways at the time of this writing, but per last year’s SNKRS Showcase, the shoes are expected to drop in Fall 2024 for a likely MSRP of $180.
