The Air Jordan 3 “Black Cement”, unsurprisingly, is one of 2024’s most anticipated sneaker releases of the year. Expected to release on November 23rd, 2024 in full family sizes, the Black Cement Jordan 3s will be returning for the first time since 2018 and are considered to be among the greatest Air Jordans in history, with some enthusiasts crowning the shoe as the GOAT.
According to the most recent update by trusted source @zsneakerheadz, the Jordan 3 “Black Cement” will be a “Super GR”, which means that Jordan Brand is planning to produce and release a massive amount of pairs — enough so that anyone who is interested in buying a pair will be available to purchase at retail. A “GR” is an abbreviation for industry term “General Release”, which typically means that the shoes will be produced in mass quantity and will not be limited in number.
History Of The Air Jordan 3 “Black Cement”
The Air Jordan 3 “Black Cement” is one of four original colorways of the Air Jordan 3 that debuted in 1988; it was designed by Tinker Hatfield, an architect turned sneaker designer that played a key role in convincing Michael Jordan to stay with Nike after the basketball star was unhappy with the Air Jordan 1 and Air Jordan 2.
Michael Jordan debuted the AJ3 during the 1988 NBA All-Star Game, wearing the Black/Grey colorway. He wore the “White Cement” during the 1988 Dunk Contest.
Air Jordan 3 “Black Cement” History Of Releases
The Black Cement 3s have released a total of six times; the upcoming 2024 version will mark the seventh overall time the shoe has released. In addition to the original 1988, release, this iconic shoe released again in 1994 during Jordan’s first retirement and again in 2001. Both of those Retro releases featured Nike Air logos on the heel.
In 2008, the shoe made a comeback as part of the “Countdown Package” series, which paired up two Air Jordans that totaled 23 (the Air Jordan 3 was teamed up with the Air Jordan 20). The 2008 version featured the Jumpman logo on the heel. It released again in 2011 as a solo release, again with the Jumpman on the heel.
The last known release came in 2018 during All-Star Weekend; with a $200 MSRP and Nike Air at the heel, the Black Cement 3s were highly sought after and sold out immediately.
The upcoming 2024 version of the Black Cement Jordans feature the same base colorway, but with “Sail” tinted midsoles. This means that the white midsole pictured above will have the slightest hint of yellowing. As of the publishing of this article, a first look at the 2024 Black Cement Jordans have not yet been revealed.
