Y2K Vibes Hit The Nike Air Max 1 86 “Metallic Silver”

An icy "big bubble" Air unit appears underfoot.

Y2K Vibes Hit The Nike Air Max 1 86 “Metallic Silver”

Ever since Nike brought back the “big bubble” Air Max 1 for Air Max Day last year, we’ve seen both original colorways and entirely new design themes take to the model.

Taking direction from furtiristic Y2K aesthetics, this latest pair comes with “Metallic Silver” overlays and a “Cool Grey” base to match. Notably, the mesh fabric utilized across the upper is wider than normal for the model, almost like that of common athletic shorts and jerseys. Moreover, the branding gets an upgrade as leather-debossed “Nike Air” logos appear on the tongue and heel.

Pivoting to the model’s defining feature underfoot, the “big bubble” Air unit sports an icy blue tint. All told, Nike designers bring a modern touch to the original version of Tinker Hatfield’s classic here, evoking current footwear trends and Air Max heritage in one stroke.

The Air Max 1 86 “Metallic Silver” is expected to hit shelves in Fall 2024 for $170; a markup justified by the shoe’s unique materials and detailing. Scroll through the official image gallery below if you’re considering copping a pair.
