Capitalizing off of increased heat around the metaverse & Web3, Nike rolled out .SWOOSH towards the end of 2022. The program’s stated intentions were to reimagine how consumers reached product and how the brand interfaced with the community as an extension of that.
2024 has arguably brought the initiative’s biggest moments so far, the one-two punch of the RTFKT Dunk Genesis and “404” Air Force 1 delivering some buzzy moments that captured the ever-shifting attention of sneakerheads. Can they do the same again? The next step is a sequel to a 2022 release, bringing the tongue-in-cheek “This Is Not A JPEG” subhead back to shelves with the Air Force 1 “TINAJ B.”
The “B” subtitle here seems warranted, as this shoe builds very much off the foundation of the first colorway. Remaining from that pair are the tumbled leather upp and the circular “THIS IS NOT A JPEG” icon on the heel counter. However, the colorful forefoot marks a pretty big divergence from the all-white counterpart we saw last.
Without official word from Nike it’s hard to confirm, but the mixed media on those sections (croc-patterned suede, canvas, leather and heavy fabric all make appearances) reads as an expression of the “glitchy” concept expressed by the Blue Screen of Death insoles. Barring that, it functions perfectly well as an expression of the procedurally generated artistic aspect of the Our Force 1 project and Nike’s NFT efforts as a whole.
As of writing, concrete release details for the Nike Air Force 1 “TINAJ B” are unclear. The first “TINAJ” edition dropped via SNKRS Exclusive Access, pairs only available to dotSWOOSH members who participated in the “Our Force 1” program. Redoubling those requirements seems likely, but keep our Sneaker Release Dates page handy for the most current information as it emerges.
