Julius Randle Debuts The Skechers SKX Reign

The third Skechers Basketball model surfaces.

Julius Randle Debuts The Skechers SKX Reign

If Skechers is to ever shed its “dad shoe” stigma, it will likely be through its growing basketball division. In October of 2023, the Southern California footwear brand wholly entered the category by signing Julius Randle and Terrace Mann to endorsement deals, unveiling its first two hoops shoes in the process. Now on the cusp of the sub-brand’s one-year anniversary, Skechers is coming out with a fresh model, tapping Randle for the honor of unveiling it to the world.

Showcased here in images taken during Skechers’ brand tour in China, the all-new Skechers SKX Reign is a pretty far cry from the preceding SKX Float and SKX Resagrip, both of which the New York Knicks star wore during the 2023-24 season (before he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury). The shoe sits at a mid-top height and comes with the same puffed-up ankle padding as its counterparts, but the upper and sole have been heavily re-worked. The former appears to be composed of synthetic mesh, with radial lines near the quarter and a forefoot underlay likely meant to enhance stability. The heel portion of the midsole extends upwards to hug the back of the foot, and just as we’ve seen consistently across the sub-brand’s budding product line, the outsole is composed of Goodyear Resagrip technology, making the shoe extremely grippy on indoor courts.

Hoopers have given the SKX Float and SKX Resagrip pretty solid performance reviews since they entered the market last year, and given the fact that the SKX Reign comes with some of the same core tech specs, it’s likely to get a similar reception. Opinions are a bit more subjective when it comes to aesthetics, but most will likely agree that the SKX Reign stands as the most visually appealing Skechers Basketball model to date. The absence of heavy Skechers branding might just be the most important quality to that claim, enabling one’s able to form an honest and unbiased opinion about the shoe itself rather than the brand behind it.

The Skechers SKX Reign doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s likely pairs will arrive ahead of or around NBA Opening Night in late October of 2024. In any case, know that our Sneaker Release Dates page will display all the most recent, accurate info.
