“Taupe Grey” Blooms On A Shining Nike Mac Attack

The Nike Mac Attack is back (again.) After a concerted retro effort in 2023 that included ushering John McEnroe into the world of Travis Scott shoes, the silhouette cooled a bit towards the top of the year. Only a handful of colorways have dropped since January, but the looks that have hit the market each pushed the envelope a bit farther than the first few. Now the latest “Taupe Grey” colorway provides the model’s most vibrant look yet.

While the mesh underlays remain in classic snow white, the color-blocking scheme that splits leather overlays and suede Swoosh & collar opts for a more radiant arrangement. “Coconut Milk” takes over thost front layers, while rosy “Taupe Grey” takes on the back. A swatch of burnt umber graces the stitching panel that connects the collar to the rest of the shoe, lending a bit of contrast, while the midsole opts for the everlasting vintage off-white.

Pursuing more colorful endeavors on the Mac Attack seems like a smart choice; though the most hardcore of old-school collectors celebrated McEnroe’s signature returning and the marketing around its re-emergence drew a ton of eyes, sticking to the same old-school script as its 80s run hasn’t lit the world of fire from a fiscal standpoint. Perhaps an injection of vibrant tonality is exactly what the Mac Attack needs to carve out a foothold in the modern scene.
