USA women’s basketball stamped their claim to greatest Olympics run in modern history with a gold medal on the last night of the Paris Olympics. And of course they did it in style. Perhaps no one more than Sabrina Ionescu, still at the center of one of the biggest sneaker stories of the year via her Nike Sabrina 2, posting the PE colorway she rocked on Sunday shortly after the medal ceremony.
It’s not hard to see the inspiration behind this design, opting for clean simplicity to match the occasion. An all-red upper, tinted a deeper burgundy at the quarter outlining FlyWire stabilization, is matched by a navy swatch on the midsole towards the forefoot. Gilded hits on the “S” tongue logo and the Swoosh carry the requisite pedigree for the Olympic stage, well-met as Ionescu earned her first gold medal.
Understandably, this “Olympic Gold” PE of the Nike Sabrina 2 will almost assuredly remain exclusive to Ionescu’s collection. However, there’s a few recent colorways of the Liberty star’s second signature that tap into a similar appeal; from the Nike Sabrina 2 “Gold Quest” to the Sabrina 2 “Mirrored” on August 15th. Tap in to see who’s stocking those pairs, and catch a detailed shot of the commemorative player exclusive just below.
