It’s hardly a mystery that the 1906 family is front and center for New Balance’s forward movement in the lifestyle category. Originally a performance running shoe that debuted in 2009, the 1906R made its way back to the limelight in 2022 sharing the same cushioning system as the 2002R and 860v2, boasting ACTEVA LITE cushioning, shock absorbing N-ergy, and segmented ABZORB SBS pods at the heel.

With the undercarriage set, it’s been all about colorways and materials for the 1906R. From collaborations with outdoor gear brand CAYL to lifestyle imprints Aime Leon Dore, the 1906R is as versatile any other in the NB catalog, especially with the lateral expansion of the silo such as the 1906U, 1906A, and the ever-controversial 1906 Loafer.

Sticking to the standard 1906R build, New Balance aims to prep the sneaker for the Fall season with Cordura materials on the upper. The synthetic fiber-based fabrics are engineered to offer better protection against the elements, often seen in utility gear (backpacks, uniforms, belts, and so on). Four colorway options are established for the coming weeks, each skewing to familiar seasonal hues.
